The Volen National Center for Complex Systems, with ties to several departments, is the hub for the interdisciplinary study of intelligence from the perspectives of neuroscience, cognitive science, and computer science.

In the Department of Psychology, students may study behavioral neuroscience and language, cognition and perception.

Core courses in psychology, computer science, language studies and philosophy are the foundation of the undergraduate major in Cognitive Science. Students may customize the concentration with a broad range of electives spanning several different departments.

The Department of Cognitive and Neural Systems and the Center for Adaptive Systems provides advanced training in a broad range of areas concerning cognitive science.
